When the Social Pirate moved to St. Pete, she was ready to make new friends. Joining a neighborhood association is a great way to meet neighbors and get involved in the community.
St. Pete's neighborhood associations are voluntary. They aren't HOAs and they aren't about making rules. What they are about is fostering a sense of community, improving our neighborhoods and serving as a connection with the City government. The Cith of St. Petersburg recognizes the established associations and the City has a Neighborhood Relations Department.
Neighborhood associations have events like porch parties hosted at neighbors homes, park festivals, chili cookoffs, participation in City parades, neighborhood cleanups or Carefest which helps people in need do home repairs.
Neighborhood associations typically have neighborhood meetings, often with City employees present to inform on topics like city planning, codes enforcement, transportation. Representatives from the St. Pete Police and Fire Departments also attend neighborhood association meetings.
Our head Social Pirate Michelle is active in her Central Oak Park Neighborhood Association. The photos below are examples of some of the events the association has had. Another resource for St. Petersburg neighborhoods is the Council of Neighborhood Associations.
